W.R. Berkley Names New President of Acadia Insurance

October 18, 2019 - W.R. Berkley Corporation has appointed David J. LeBlanc as president of Acadia Insurance, a Berkley company.

LeBlanc succeeds Douglas M. Nelson, who transitions into a chairman role for Acadia Insurance.

He has more than 35 years of experience in the P&C insurance business, having joined Acadia in 2006. LeBlanc most recently served as the company’s chief operating officer and chief underwriting officer. He earned his bachelor of arts degree in economics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and holds a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation.

In 2011, Nelson joined Acadia as president. He will continue to support the new president and the Acadia team throughout the transition, a release mentioned. In his new role as chairman, Nelson will support other Berkley initiatives and activities.

“We thank Doug for his work in advancing our terrific franchise at Acadia. We are delighted that he will continue to share his considerable talents with the teams at Acadia and Berkley more broadly,” said W.R. Berkley president and CEO W. Robert Berkley, Jr.

Robert also mentioned that LeBlanc is a proven leader, and that his appointment helps maintain the continuity of many initiatives the company has underway. LeBlanc’s expertise in commercial lines insurance and “deep appreciation” for the needs of the Northeast region is seen as an asset for Acadia.

“We are fortunate to have the depth in our leadership team to be able to effect such a seamless transition and continue our great work in this region,” Robert said.
