Target University

Target University pngThe mission of Target University is to further promote Best Practices in program administration, enhance the status of Program Business in the insurance industry and recognize the specialized skill sets of Program Specialists. The University was developed through the efforts of the TMPAA Board and committee of TMPAA members who served as advisors on course development. Courses are taught by your program peers and professionals actively working in this industry segment.

TMPAA Members who complete and pass all 13 courses and have the prerequisite leadership history and/or experience in program business are eligible to apply for the CPL (Certified Programs Leader) Designation.

Approved applicants will be awarded the CPL Designation at either the Mid-Year or Summit annual meetings. Anyone can take Target University Courses, however, not all participants will be eligible to earn the CPL Designation.

CPL requirements are as follows:

  • Successful completion of all Target University Courses
  • Minimum 5 years experience in the Insurance Industry 
  • 2 years experience in a Program Leadership Role (Manager, Supervisor, Officer) OR 5 years as a Program Underwriter OR 5 years as a Vendor in a technical position directly serving the program business industry
  • Absence of any ethical violations
  • Membership in the TMPAA
  • Two endorsements (please use referral form below)

Courses offered to TMPAA members at a discounted per-course fee and to non-members for a full price fee. The current 13-course curriculum includes:

  • Risk Management
  • Leadership & Ethics
  • Underwriting
  • Systems & Operations
  • Program Marketing

Target University recommends reviewing all the following documents prior to starting the application process.  The courses are all administered online and utilize a secure third party vendor for applications, payments and course credits.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are a TMPAA member and plan to pursue the CPL Designation, please submit the CPL application for approval prior to course selection and payment.
