August 2013 - Over the years Carnegie has enjoyed the growth and challenges associated with the highly competitive and constantly evolving insurance universe. 

Specializing in personal lines P&C markets Carnegie has consistently maintained their definitional role as an MGA, having honed their skills and increased their value by extending their experience through the ownership and operation of an admitted carrier and a retail agency.  Carnegie has focused their attention and expertise on markets in the Western United States and is best known for their work in the non-standard auto market.

Carnegie is a family owned business founded by seasoned executives from the carrier side who saw a unique opportunity in 1988 with the passage of Prop 103 in California.  Current management believes, as did Carnegie’s founder, Charles Smith, that bringing the carrier mentality, expectations, and operational philosophy to the MGA model will continue to outperform other approaches and provide profitable and predictable results.  With the second generation of Smiths now running the business, Carnegie continues to be infused with new energy and ideas that respect, yet challenge the lessons of the past while striving for solutions to meet the expectations of the future.  Known for their commitment to building win-win relationships with their carriers, Carnegie has several active programs with over 10 years of experience.

Six Smith Family, Inc. is the parent over Carnegie Agency, Inc. DBA Carnegie General Insurance Agency; Carnegie General Insurance Agency of Nevada DBA Carnegie Select Insurance Agency; Platinum Claims Inc. and AA Plus.   Platinum is an in house TPA facility, AA Plus is an in house retail agency, and Carnegie Select is the GA for most of the homeowner and recreational products markets.  Combined, these businesses are staffed by over 70 employees, most working from the same location in Southern California and supporting the unique programs of eight carriers.
