Novel Coronavirus Update
As our members make decisions about conducting business safely while navigating concerns about viral infection threats, we wanted to share information about the 2020 Mid-Year Meeting in Tampa.
Our current plans are to hold this event as scheduled. We have made changes to our registration policy that would allow individuals to cancel without penalty should travel restrictions or health concerns prevent attending. Hotel reservations can be cancelled 72 hours prior to arrival without penalty.
The Association is developing precautionary measures to ensure the safety of all 2020 Mid-Year Meeting attendees.
As of March 3, 2020, the following protocols have been established:
- Hotel staff will disinfect anything a traveler would touch frequently, this can include but is not limited to, the call buttons in elevators, light switches, door handles, toilets, telephones and the reception counter several times each day during the event.
- Sanitizer and tissues will be provided during the event throughout the meeting spaces and common areas.
- A no handshake policy will be encouraged.
- Hotel staff will serve food items, minimizing use of common serving implements.
- Attendees who are not well are urged not to attend.
We understand that individuals in high risk groups may make the informed decision not to attend. The TMPAA will work with these members to help mitigate their losses and make the connections inside our group they require to run and/or improve their business.
Both the World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have posted safety recommendations you should review.
You can expect updates to our planning as new information becomes available.

GENERAL SESSION
Social Inflation's Growing Impact on the Insurance Industry and Your Program Business
Expert Panel TBA
Anti-corporate sentiments, greater division or separation of wealth, the impact of millennials on the jury pool, and now the availability of “litigation funding” is all fueling the rising costs of insurance claims. A significant problem 30 years ago, social inflation receded as an issue but has once again reared its head. The impacts of social inflation are being felt again across many casualty lines of business. Whether this will turn out to be a prolonged trend is an important question to the insurance industry.
Come listen to a panel of experts define the reasons behind this trend, what to expect in the near term, and the change in underwriting behavior that may be necessary as a result.
10:00-11:00 AM
Consolidation Craze – Full Steam Ahead
Jerry Theodorou, Conning
Mergers & acquisitions in the insurance distribution sector are at an all-time high. The pace of consolidation activity by program aggregators, brokers, MGAs and insurers pursuing consolidation and rollup strategies to acquire retail agents and program administrators seems unstoppable. In this workshop, Conning explores the status and implications of today’s frenzied consolidation trend in the program business and retail agent space. Conning draws on its unique proprietary research into the program business segment, featuring its annual in-depth study of the MGA market, and incorporates findings from Target Market’s State of Program Business Study.

McKeel Hagerty
McKeel began playing with cars as a boy and hasn’t stopped since, turning his parent’s small local insurance agency into the world’s largest provider of specialty insurance to vintage vehicle enthusiasts and an automotive lifestyle brand focused on the love of cars and driving.
His “grow yourself first” approach to life and leadership has been so successful that in 2016-2017 he was elected international chairman of YPO, the world’s largest peer-to-peer group for CEOs. During his term, he traveled extensively, talking to world leaders and business innovators about leadership and success. He’ll share his thoughts on these subjects in his first book, “Who Will Lead?” due out next spring.
McKeel’s knowledge and enthusiasm have given him a reputation as an authority within the automotive and automotive media worlds, representing the classic car community on numerous boards and advisory groups, and appearing regularly as a commentator for ESPN, SPEED, CNBC and Discovery. He is also a long-time judge of the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
Before choosing the family business, he studied to be a Russian Orthodox priest (Saint Vladimir’s Orthodox Seminary) and then a philosophy professor (Boston College). He lives with his wife Soon Hagerty near Traverse City, Michigan, the cherry capital of the world, on a narrow peninsula that juts into Lake Michigan. They have three wonderful daughters, Olivia, Sophia and Ava.
To this day, McKeel’s fondest car memory is, at the age of 13, buying and restoring a 1967 Porsche 911S that he and his dad found in pieces in snowbanks behind an old garage.
He cherishes it and drives it to this day.
